Meet The Crew

Dereck Camacho
CEO/Co Founder
Dereck Camacho

Dereck aka "Pops" sits at the helm of the Tona operation. I knew Dereck from a young age but in recent years since the birth of Tona I've had the pleasure of spending heaps of time with him and if there is one thing i've learned is that this guy's brain never stops ticking. When he's not busy sending us 40 emails a day you can usually find him in his shaping room whipping up a new board, hand crafting guitars in his workshop, riding dirt bikes at the track with his two sons or going for a quick kite or SUP sesh. If there is anything I can say about Dereck its that he is passionate about design and it shows not only in his work but in everything he does. Apart from a couple shortcomings with his grammar and spelling (which I remind him of on a daily basis) he is a great business partner and above all a pretty awesome human being. I can't imagine having anyone else at the wheel of our company.

Andre Phillip
Ambassador/Co Founder
Andre Phillip

Andre just oozes talent. Not just on a kite board or on a surfboard, but as I spend more and more time with him, I realize that once he puts his mind to anything, there is really nothing he can't do, and do it well! It wasn't too long ago I showed him a few chords on my ukulele. He then went out and bought a uke, tirelessly asked me to show him what I knew, and now the guy shows me up big time. I have known Andre for a very long time and he is always up for a challenge. Andre is extremely talented and natural learner packaged up in a very ‘chilled' attitude. At this point of his life and career it has been fascinating to watch him morph into his new role as a business owner. He brings his tremendous knowledge and experience of the industry and uses it wisely in the development of the Tona brand. He is passionate about the riders and truly wants to make sure Tona always stays focused on the core of our sport. When it comes to product development, he has the ability to focus on the smallest of details. He not only knows what he wants from his equipment, but has the ability to tell me what he likes, dislikes and what he is looking for. This is a tremendous help to me as a shaper. I think the relationship we have in product development is something very special and I truly think it is a result of the many years we have known each other and respect we both have for one another.

Adam Anton
Creative Director/Co Founder
Adam Anton

I first met Adam in the early 90s when he and his family moved to Antigua, just down the road from my house. One day I was riding my bike around my neighborhood and we crossed paths, I noticed that he had a pretty awesome bmx that he pimped out himself with a splatter paint job. He was always drawing, doing graphic design and basically adding personal style and flavor to anything he owned. He always had that artistic side to him, but in those early days he hadn't realized his beard growing talents as yet. Although we knew each other, we had our own separate bike crews that we roamed the neighborhood with. It wasn't until we ended up going skurfing with a mutual friend one day that we discovered we both had a love for board sports, and that kicked off the start of a close friendship ever since. Adam is a down to earth, laid back fella who loves nothing more than a good surf session with the boys or just kicking it at home working on a new design. He also has a love for film, and has probably seen more movies and documentaries than you've had hot meals.

Adam has owned and run a kiteboarding school (KitesurfAntigua) and a kiteforum (KiteScoop) for many years and coupled with his love for drawing, art, design and boardsports he is a perfect addition to the creative side of Tona.

Leo Chen
Sales Manager (US West Coast)
Leo Chen

Ever since the day that Leo first contacted Tona, he's been bombarding us with one great idea after the next. He first reached out to us looking to be our San Francisco rep, and after a few conversations with him over the phone it was clear that he was going to bring a lot more to the table than we initially thought. In a short space of time his role went from selling Tona boards at his local beach to advising us in almost every area of our online marketing and sales strategies. He started fiddling with computers and building websites at 10 years old, and he hasn't stopped progressing since. Working hand in hand with Jordan and myself, Leo's extensive knowledge of web development and social media skills keeps us ever-evolving and ahead of the curve. Every company dreams of finding that "whiz kid" who's not only got the special ingredients to take them to the next level, but is extremely motivated to do so, and in our case… he found us.

Iker Tursi
Sales Manager (US East Coast & Latin America)
Iker Tursi

When Dereck and I first came up with the idea of managing the reps Iker's name was the first one that popped out of DC's mouth when we were talking about a person to manage our East Coast rep team. After working with him for a bit, it soon became apparent that Dereck had made a wise choice. Iker's calm collected demeanor goes a long way in any sort of discussion, his measured approach to problems ensured that they were all solved before they became larger issues. Iker's 15 years of sales experience is readily apparent in the way that he manages to treat his reps as people, always looking out for their best interests, while finding the best way to maximize their efficiency. Plus, he's a pretty solid kiter . I like to view him as the “Cool Dad” of our group, always ready to keep the peace, with a wealth of knowledge to dispense as well.

Ronald Kittag
European Sales
Ronald Kittag

Ronnie and I always seem to interact when one of us is about to fall asleep or has just woken up. The wonders of a Californian working with an Austrian dude I guess. Ronnie's in charge of our European distribution network, pretty big job but one that Ronnie's managed to work to perfection. When I talk to Ronnie, despite the time zone differences, despite the fact that we're on separate continents, what shines through is his passion for the sport and the community. He cares about Tona, but he's capable of viewing problems through the scope of Kiteboarding as a whole and not just through the focus of one small (but growing) company. Ronnie's not afraid to step in and try to right the ship when he sees us off course. His experience and his knowledge are something that I tap often, probably resulting in a ton of lost sleep for the both of us, but well worth it.

Jordan Anton
Webmaster/Tech
Jordan Anton

Meet the man who spends more time under the hood of Tona than anyone else on the team. He might still be my little brother, but I've been looking up to him for advice on all things technical since he was about 15 when he built our first website, Kite Scoop. I remember when Jordan first took an interest in learning code, it was around the same time that I was building sites using CSS and I thought I was on top of my game. But it wasn't long before he started dissecting my style sheets within seconds and talking to me in languages I thought were from another planet, so I realized it was time to let him control the back end and I'd just stick to the design. We worked hand in hand for years, developing the Scoop and building websites in our spare time, so it only seemed natural that he jump on board with us when we started Tona. Since then he's been one of the most essential members of our company, without whom we simply would not function. Being my brother, I get to call on him late at night or early in the morning for last minute site updates without feeling guilty, but I guess that's the price he has to pay for being smarter than me ;)
